Offered is an elusive and useful VP-24 (Patrol Squadron 24) cover sent from Pearl Harbor on 21 May, 1942, just one week before being deployed to Midway and that Battle. Official Mail posted with a well struck Pearl cancel similar to a Locy type 8. Cover slit open at top edge with no tears or damage. Cover has light soil from age, not uncommon. Cover censored. PBY-5a's from VP-24 were on "Ready Alert" status on 7 December, 1941, at Pearl, on 30 minute notice. However, VP-24 was in the air shortly after the first enemy bomb was dropped, attacking and tracking the enemy airplanes. VP-24 was also at Midway during that Battle and aided in locating the Japanese fleet. This is a historic and important cover for a serious Naval cover collector of Pearl Harbor and WW2.
