This scrapbook is a very nice collection for the Elwood Gary fan or Baltimore Md. historian. Mr. Gary, formerly Elwood Garrison was born in N.J. but came to Md. as a child with his family. After taking vocal lessons he attended Peabody Institute and in 1931 won an audition conducted by the famed Ted Joyce band in Hollywood. In 1942 he was awarded a contract with the Metropolitan Opera Co. but was inducted into the army during WW ll. Mr. Gary has also done radio broadcasts, performed at the Hippodrome and Grauman's Chinese Theatre Grand Hotel. There is even a picture with him and Mrs. Roosevelt taken at the Balt. Museum of Art War Finance Committee Bond Drive Oct. 26, 1943. Many of the pictures have captions which make it very interesting.Items do show wear but for age it is a nice collection. There is a slight "old" smell from storage. There are some nice pictures, newspaper articles, programs and even a page titled letters to remember including one dated 1942 from Balt. mayor Howard Jackson. Some items are unattached and others secured by small pieces of tape and photo corners. It is truly a delightful look into Elwood Gary's life. Mr. Gary died at the young age of 63 from a heart ailment. Don't miss this one! Selling as is so please email with any questions before bidding. Thanks for looking.
