EMIL FISCHER ZSOLNAY TWO HANDLED VASE You are bidding on this 8 1/2" high Hungarian ceramic vase made by Emil Fischer in the late 1880's, around the time when his company was being bought out and taken over by Zsolnay.The vase has the familiar reticulated body and openwork handles. It is decorated with a lacy pattern of purple and yellow flowers and foliage with gold highlights.T is a chip on the base seat and the neck has been repaired. This is hard to see in the photos and in real life because the repair gets hidden in the busy lace pattern on the vase. T is gold wear on the rim and on the base. The mark on the bottom is an impressed under the glaze mark of FISCHER EMIL BUDAPEST 6608. T are gold painted numerals D-219 as well as a worn black printed mark of a partial crown. (Surely a company mark, but it is too worn to read) HISTORY Ignác Fischer (Emil's father) acquired his knowledge of arts and crafts in Hungary at his father's manufacture of ceramics in Tata-Tóváros. He then further refined and developed his knowledge of ceramics at the nd factory, also in Hungary. Ignác founded his own workshop at Pest in 1864. At first, he dealt only with painting the china products of other factories. However, he produced his own ceramics beginning in 1867.
