Born in Sandwich, Ontario, Canada to American parents, he began his formal artistic training at the Eastern Michigan University in 1904. Upon graduating, Weddige further pursued his artistic career and moved to New York, refining his technique while continuing his education at the Art Students League, working under the likes of renowned artists like Morris Kantor and Emil Ganso, who played an important role for the artist immersion in lithography. Weddige became a notable instructor at University of Michigan Art Department in 1937.
