Brooch Firstly, let me say that vintage items are items previously owned and worn. I am not referring to a specific period when I say vintage. I am falling into line with a lot of people who call used items "vintage" although in my own mind vintage means antique. So, I will add further information about a piece if I have further details. For example, if the item is genuine Art Deco, I will say so. A pretty brooch which I think is Victorian. However, I am not an expert in Victorian pieces so this is just my own opinion. The brooch has a fancy shape with an oblong centre which is enamelled in dark blue. On this is a flower in white with petals highlighted in gold. Leaves and stem are gold too. The brooch was probably gold plated initially but this has worn away leaving an aged patina, although you can still see traces of gold. More is present on the reverse side. The clasp is a C clasp and like lots of C clasp arrangements, the pin itself does tend to want to drop down. Lots of relief work around the frame which you can see with the naked eye but even more so if you study the brooch closely. The brooch is approx. 1 inch across by 3/4 inch deep. There are a few cracks in the enamelling on the left hand side as you look at the brooch and possibly a thin slither missing down the side - but then again it might have been made this way. read more
