Collectors! is a nice Enfield Model 1907 rifle bayonet and leather scabbard! These fit the No. 1 Mk III SMLE rifle (or Small Magazine Lee-Enfield as it was known). This rifle and bayonet were mainstays of the British Commonwealth forces for WWI. What is special about this one is the very rare manufacturer- MOLE. A British bayonet collector told me that most of Mole's pieces were lost early in the war during the trench fighting of WWI. Later in the war the bulk of these bayonets were made by Wilkinson and other companies, so surviving Mole examples are among the least common. This one is dated 11-17 manufacture. My lousy digital camera cannot do closeups, but the cypher is faint but readable on the blade with crown, GR (Georgious Rex a.k.a. King George) being lightly struck. The date and MOLE marking are very crisp and clear however. Of the markings the Mole and the date are the clearest and easy to read. The many inspection/reinspection dates on the reverse side are clear too, going through 1927. The leather scabbard is in good condition, solid stitching, stapling and metal ends. Both pieces still have storage grease on them and I have not messed with it. You can clean it up to your liking! T are many of these Model 1907's around, but very, very few MOLE pieces! This would be a great addition to any collection with low opening bid! read more
