Hallmark Keepsake Ornament England Santas From Around the World Handcrafted - Dated 2005 Ornament is mint in the original box. Box shows some wear. Lighted trees, mistletoe, and strolling carolers are but a few signs that it's Christmastime in England. Families enjoy sending cards and attending delightful Christmas plays of airy tales called pantomimes. On December 24 (Christmas Eve), children put out stockings for Father Christmas to fill. After a church visit, a gift exchange, and a broadcast message from the queen, Christmas Day culminates in a feast. This Father Christmas holds the customary end to that festive meal - plum pudding. As far back as the 13th century, England's national identity was tied to the exquisite needlework that was produced there. The embroidery on this Father Christmas's robe is reminiscent of the scrollwork and nature motifs of the 17th- and 18th-century decorative items like samplers, clothing, and household cloths.
