This is a fine antique English miniature bracket clock with a mahogany veneered case. The clock, which stands just under 8 inches high, is on cast brass feet and has its original dial that is silvered and engraved with a floral pattern. Under the arch, the dial is signed "John Thompson Junr, Walworth". Walworth is a district in London, and a John Thompson Junr. is recorded as having worked t between 1805 and 1808. The case has a lovely patina and has some typical veneer cracking on the arch top and door frame and a few larger cracks on the rear door. The front door opens using a push button the side, and the rear door still has its original lock. The movement and hands were obviously changed at some time; the clock is now fitted with an early Swiss lever eight-day movement similar to a Goliath pocket watch movement. About four years ago, I had this clock professionally cleaned and restored. I had the front glass replaced (the original was cracked), bits of loose veneer and other case parts glued with hide glue, a new roller jewel installed, and the movement cleaned.
