CHARATAN Special 8311 SHS JSC [150] 35 Large apple Vulcanite Double Comfort saddle mouthpiece stamped with white Cp logo & Regd. No. Nomenclature: CHARATAN'S MAKE LONDON.ENGLAND SPECIAL 4122 DC This big apple, a chunky flame-grained Charatan probably from the 1970s, is stamped as one of their mid-grades, but frankly it is a beautifully grained pipe and will smoke every bit as well as a high-priced grade. In addition, it is from the remarkable Skellchock collection (see below) and thus was lightly smoked and maintained perfectly, and remains exactly like new as if it were just purchased. Original Charatan box with guarantee included Original Charatan black silk sleeve included Dimensions GROUP 5 to 6 Weight: 1.7 oz. / 60 g PIPE length: 5 3/4 " BOWL height: 1 13/16 " The JOHN SKELLCHOCK COLLECTION This pipe is part of the large collection purchased from the estate of John Skellchock. A California collector of primarily oversized English high-grades, he acquired his pipes in the 1960s and '70s and was known to smoke and maintain them meticulously. Almost every briar is still like new, with no surface wear, no toothmarks, a glossy stem and a crisp, clean rim. He favored English blends from Drucquer & Sons in Berkeley.
