FINE ENGLISH LATE VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER COFFEE POT; BALUSTER WITH ELEGANT SHELL, SCROLL AND FLORAL DECORATION; SHELL CAP HOOFED FEET; CARVED WOOD HANDLE AND FINIAL; MESSRS. BARNARD, LONDON, 1898 This is a beautifully designed and hand crafted English sterling silver coffee pot. From the renowned Barnards, London 1898. Along with the Batemans and Hennells, the Barnards are considered British silver "royalty". Given several generations of producing the finest of sterling wares. This late Victorian coffee pot illustrates this perfectly. Crafted in baluster form. Elaborate scrolling foliate decoration. Cascading florals. Oversized shells, texture engraved. Set against pebbled background. Curling vine framed medallion, monogrammed "CAS". Well carved ebonise handle. Cylinder joins, perfectly secure. Ebonised "cake form" finial with tiny sterling globe on pedestal cap. Supported upon shell cap, bent knee hoof ed feet.....gorgeous. The Barnard coffee pot is 8 3/4 inches tall and 8 1/4 handle to spout, 23 ounces, consider wood handle and finial. Excellent condition. Retains most all of its original crisp, sharp hand chased detail. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Fully hallmarked as shown, partial marks under lid.
