Ernest Hemingway - The Old Man and The Sea - First Edition Later Printing Signed and Inscribed by the author on the ffep. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1952. First Edition, Later Printing with the Scribner's seal but lacking the 'A' on the copyright page. In the original dust jacket. Inscribed by Hemingway "To Carleton and Suzanna // Tweed with all best // wishes always // From their friend // Ernest Hemingway". The Tweed's were well-to-do Coral Gables residents with Suzanna Tweed acquiring the title Lady Tweed sometime in her adulthood. She passed away in 1999 without having children of her own. In 1994, the Lady Suzanna P Tweed and Carleton Tweed Charitable Foundation was established. It still grants scholarships to deserving Coral Gables high school students. Carleton Tweed was an avid angler and a member of the Miami Rod & Reel Club. The book is VG+ with some darkening to the spine and joints. Some offsetting to the endpapers as pictured. The original dust jacket has some wear to spine tips and some smudging on the front panel. A sharp copy, with a desirable signature.
