Here is an intriguing vintage original etching by the well known Louisiana artist Eugene E. Loving (1907 - 1971). It is pencil signed and titled in the margin “Green Shutter Patio, Old New Orleans, Ed/100, Eugene E. Loving”. It measures 14 3/4 by 10 1/4 inches overall in a thin wooden frame. The mat opening measures 8 by 5 1/2 inches. I have not taken it out of the frame to inspect the condition of the print, but it appears in very good condition with only some minor toning from the mat board. It is offered with no reserve over the low opening bid. I have another, similar print on auction; please check my other listings on eBay. Here is a short biography of the artist courtesy of “Eugene E. Loving arrived in New Orleans during the Great Depression, attracted to the exotic allure of bohemian life that thrived in the French Quarter during that time. A brilliant etcher, he helped revive an interest in the centuries-old form. While few biographical details of Loving remain known, he was a member of the New Orleans Arts and Crafts Club in the 1940s. After the medium had again become passé in the United States, he created numerous etchings on paper that benefit from the medium’s spontaneity of line in showcasing his favorite subject: French Quarter architecture. Only occasionally do human forms grace his work.Source: "Eugene Loving", read more
