EXCELLENT ART DECO SOLID SILVER CIG CASE BOWED 1919 119.3g not scrap 4 This excellent solid silver case is quite deep at just under approx 2cms and it may havebeen for holding cigars. There are no dents splits or repairs and the interior is gilded, neat but uncleaned. To be perfectly critical there is the very faintest of surface pressure line mark on the front but this would not show up on the close up photos.(If you would be disappointed with this case because of this slightest fault I will cheerfully refund.) The case is bowed and has machine cut patterning front and back. In really excellent condition.Case closes with a good firm “snap” and the hinges are strong and true. It has retainers both sides and although it does have elastics these are not very good as the stretch has gone out of them. There is an unusual inscription on the front edge of the case which reads: TO MY OLD BRAZILIAN DECEMBER 31 st 1920 The case is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1919 (Lion Passant also on catch) and the maker is A & J Zimmerman Ltd (Arthur & John Zimmerman) Regent Place, Birmingham Zimmermans went out of business between 1928 and 1931 It measures 8.5cms by 8.5cms approx Weighs 119.3g There is also the retailers name of Kirby Beard & Co Paris and marked with Fabrique Angleterre. This company was originally formed in 1840 and were read more
