A beautiful piece of lapis !! The color is Excellent! Many of these pieces show a "residual" sheen of calcite, but do not let that discourage you into thinking it's not high quality. A good indicator is look at the edge, or a chipped piece to get an idea of what lies within. Nice large and "blocky" for your saw!!! This material was hand selected for me upon request and I paid dearly for that! Not to mention prices have risen drastically due to shipping costs and general economic woes(what hasn't!) I will continue to start my items WELL BELOW my cost hoping that lapis buffs will realize the quality Quality lapis today can reach $300 a kilo!! Up from $250- is some excellent Lapis Lazuli. This is from the Badakhshan Province in Afghanistan . This is a quality piece perfect for the lapidary enthusiast, jeweler or collector. If you've been in the market for lapis, you know It is very difficult to obtain high quality rough lapis these days, Many lapis pieces I've seen have beautiful color, it's just that t is tiny pieces of calcite embedded within (flecks)to make it impossible to cut around. This greatly reduces the grade of lapis, and why the price is so reasonable.
