This is an extremely rare copy of the 1939 overview of The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (app. 14" x 9.5"), created under the auspices of the Scientific Publishing Institute of Pictorial Statistics, and with secondary credit given to Lazar "El" Lissitsky, who, at that time, was in the process of losing his favored status.The very plain cover has a red background, with hammer and sickle to the upper left of the front cover, and USSR on the spine. T are no other decorations or letters. T are a number of stains, front and back. The spine is heavily sunned, and is bottom is chipped. However, the cover's attachment to the spine and inside cover spreads is sound.The book is divided into four sections ( State Organization of the U.S.S.R.; Economic Construction in the U.S.S.R.; Welfare and Culture in the U.S.S.R.; and Position of Women in the U.S.S.R. ) each of which is introduced by a title page, with a die-cut circle toward the upper left, through which a blind-embossed graphic of Stalin and Lenin, on the following page, can be seen, as below.The two most notable flaws are: 1. the top and bottom outside edges of the section on women has eroded, as can be seen below. T is light chatter on the tops of a few other pages, but no wear of consequence, and none that approaches this page's flaws, vivible below.2. a small number of pages read more
