EXTREMELY RARE HIGH-GRADE IMPERIAL GERMAN NAVAL DAGGERBy Robrecht. This exceptional example includes a special-order blade, hilt and scabbard. Damascus steel blade with dual central fullers and an impressive pattern along its length. Obverse of ricasso inlaid with gold monogram JS" or "SS". Reverse of ricasso unmarked. Edge of blade at ricasso marked "J Robrecht Hoflie Berlin". ("Hoflie Berlin" is an abbreviation for "Hoflieferant", which functions as a mark of royal warrant). Unusual cross-guard with relief lion's heads with ruby left eyes and sapphire right eyes. Lion's heads emanate from a central rectangular boss depicting a naval anchor on both sides. Bone handle with fully intact wire wrap. Pommel in the form of the Imperial German Crown with eight facets and four half-arches supporting a small orb. This style pommel was also a special order and is very rarely seen. Hilt in excellent condition with metal surfaces retaining nearly all original gold gilt with the exception of a small rub on the very tip of one lion's nose and where the portepee rubbed the base of the pommel. Scabbard with chased and hammered floral and foliate designs. Retains its original gilt coating with a few areas of rubbing and small scratches. Also includes a correct silver bullion portepee with some frayed areas but in generally good condition. Length
