Here is one I sure hate to let go! I have collected western glass for 40 years, and western bitters are my collecting focus. In all those years, and hundreds of shows this is a first! This bright blue aqua "Dr. Henley's Wild Grape Root IXL Bitters" is loaded with thousands of champagne bubbles, and crudity. I could not capture the extent of the bubbles in the photos, but there are almost a zillion bubbles and a streak of green in the neck. This is the SECOND mold for the IXL, which followed the version without the circle around the IXL embossing which began in 1868. This mold was first used in 1870 and has the curved "R"s associated with Pacific Glass Works in San Francisco. What makes this one unique is the neatly TOOLED top...mold blown, but this mold always has an applied top. Tooled top IXL's are extremely rare, and date from the mid 1880s. This mold was first utilized 15 years prior, and was obviously re-used much later to make this bottle. No advanced western bitters collector has ever seen this variant, and is very possibly unique. Condition is near mint with no condition issues. If you like rare western glass, this IXL will not disappoint. Buyer to pay $10.85 postage in the continental US.
