This sale is for a preowned, extremely rare William Spratling sterling silver necklace and bracelet set from early 1940s.This is a rare 1940s William Spratling set in sterling silver. This highly sought after necklace and bracelet is in excellent condition. It is stamped on the back of both items with the Spratling Hallmark. Each safety chain is gold. (Not 100% sure if these are original)Necklace Dimensions 16 1/2” x 5/8” and weighs 115gBracelet Dimensions 7” x 5/8” and weighs 55gMade entirely by hand by Mexican silver Smith, William Spratling, Spratling is remembered today as the founder of the modern Mexican silver movement. Spratling was known for his incredible silversmithing abilities, and unique designs which featured a bold combination of art deco and pre-Colombian motifs.A little history of this amazing artist..... Spradling was an American born silver designer, he was born in 1900 and died in August of 1967 in a car accident outside of Taxco.The highly charged political and social environment in Mexico after the revolution influenced Spratling’s decision in 1931 to reestablish a silver industry in Taxco. Taxco was a traditional site of silver mines, but had no native silverworking industry.
