FABULOUS 1850's Eng White Ironstone Platter Baltic NR FABULOUS1850's ENGLISH WHITE IRONSTONEPLATTERBALTIC SHAPE It's become nearly impossible to find good, early pieces of English white ironstone and this platter is a real treasure. And with the holidays rapidly approaching, this platter would be a fabulous addition to any table. The platter was manufactured in England by J Meir & Son. T's a printed and impressed mark on the back of the platter. The impressed mark includes a British registry diamond and the Rd date is Oct.25, 1855.The embossed pattern is Baltic Shape and that pattern is shown on p. 57 of Jean Wetherbee's "White Ironstone: A Collector's Guide". The platter has a classic early design. T are eight sides and all around the rim, t's an embossed band. At the top of each of the eight sides t's an embossed Sydenham type shield. The platter is approx. 13 3/4" long and 11" wide. It's a thick, heavy platter with a packed weight of five pounds. The condition is terrific. T are no chips, cracks or crazing, and t's remarkably little utensil usage on the face. The glaze is bright and glossy with a slight blue gray cast that's so prized by collectors of early ironstone.
