ANTIQUE SILK EMBROIDERED RUNNER POMEGRANATES DESCRIPTION This simply "to die for" runner came from an estate sale. It is made from a light cream colored cotton and embroidered with silk thread in a pomegranate pattern which is further embellished with Richelieu work. The edge is machine made which leads me to believe this came as a kit purchased from a woman's magazine. However, the edging could have also been purchased at a dry goods store as I have actually seen similar, still on the original card. It was basted on and then attached permanently with the same silk thread as the rest of the piece. I showed this to my 83 year old mother in hopes she could date it for me. After gasping and murmuring "Oh dear Lord in heaven above" she said she had never seen anything like it. My best guess is it dates to 1910 or 20. It measures 48.5" X 15.25" and is in near perfect condition. It had 3 tiny rust spots which damaged the fabric but I repaired them and they are pictured. It is otherwise strong and in excellent condition. It shows no traces of stains or yellowing and has been carefully cleaned and pressed.
