Magnificent and highly impressive, original American Waltham Watch Co., railway type, 7 jewel pocket watch with fabulous porcelain dial which has the rarer red arabic outer numbers and a highly polished, very large, hermetic, Silverode drum case. C ~1891. Full working order and is an excellent timekeeper as you would expect. Fully checked, cleaned and serviced by my highly experienced watchmaker and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic - a timepiece to grace any collection! DIAL;- Beautiful, original, impressive and highly distinctive pale ivory (almost white) high gloss porcelain dial in near mint condition - no marks or nibbles, just one very feint hairline showing under eyeglass at 12 and very tiny one between 4 - 5 (neither detract but mentioning for accuracy) and extremly tiny edge of dial nibble at 4 which is not visible with the bezel on. Very bold, black, scrolled arabic numbers (note the lovely little arrow tip to number 4) with black minute and bolder 5 minute markers forming chapter ring and red arabic numbers (5 - 60) to outer edge. Recessed sub dial with black seconds chapters and black arabic numbers. Original, large, finely cut, blued steel double spade hands (very tiny bit of age patina to both showing under eyeglass, again mentioning for accuracy) and original blued steel arrow tip seconds hand all in lovely straight order. Signed boldly in black very fancy script; AMERICAN Waltham Watch Co. Original, very thick, bevel edge glass (not acrylic) in extremely clear and bright condition with few near micro-scopic, light little surface scratches showing under eyeglass commensurate with age and use. CASE;- The very large and chunky (5.7cm diameter/8.4cm from top of bow to base) highly polished (please excuse any reflections in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph) original, hard wearing/near indestructable, Silverode (alloy made up of 66% copper, 24% zinc and 10% nickel) railroad type hermetic drum case is heavy (total watch weight is a hefty 163.2 grams), robust (has a pleasing, solid feel in the hand) and in terrific order with absolutely no wear or indentations (looks to have been very much loved and cared for) and just overall very light little surface scratches (mainly to back) commensurate with age and use in her 122 years service. The front bezel and back cover screw on and off (hermetic) correctly with no fuss, closing tightly and both have a raised, unworn coin edge making for an easy grip. The inside of the back cover (which carries beautiful 'fish scale' engine turning) is stamped (within a Victorian buckle type cartouche); PHILADELPHIA WATCH CASE CO., (with their crown symbol to centre), SILVERODE and is numbered; 399237. MOVEMENT;- The stem wound and set American Waltham Watch Co., 7 ruby jewelled, full gilt plate lever movement (Waltham 1883 model, 18 size, Grade; No.1) is in very good order with just a little bit of age patina showing to the top plates as to be expected. Has a compensated bi-metalic balance wheel (did not want to stop for the camera - showing the balance spring is in perfect beat) with brass balance screws and four red gold meantime screws (for precision timing), bright blued steel flat balance spring which is true and 'in the round', screwed in ruby end stone in a very fancy 'flower' chaton setting, micro whip regulator (which is sat correctly in the central position) and very heavily engraved balance cock. Stamped on the top plates in very clear, wavey, large, Victorian type script; American Waltham Watch Co. SAFETY PINION and is numbered; 5817679 - dating her to 1891. Also correcly stamped on the bottom plate (under the dial) and to the underside of the balance cock with a partial repeat of the main movement number; 817679.
