Self Pronouncing Edition: The Combination Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, Translated Out of the Original Tongues...etc... Philadelphia: A J Holman, 1895. Worn Family Bible with Georgia provenance (Rich family), including 4th GA Cavalry Vet Pvt Green B Rich. With raised designs and cloth covers, faded and worn surfaces, some showing along edges of boards. . Spine w/stamped designed titling, some minor loss and heavier rubbing on edges, as shown. All pages bound, some browned, some light tears and a couple creases, some chipping; covers cleanly attached but hinges loosened. Many illustrations, some by Gustave Dore. Family pages complete with the Rich family infof rom the misd 1800s until mid 1900s. B egins with GB Rich, Confederate Vet (also with newspaper obit with mention of his service in the War), and includes othr noted Rich family members, including a physician in which a hospital was named after in Jesup, Georgia. Interesting ephemera includes a heart chart from the early 1940s, as well as numerous clippings and letters. One clipping tells the story about a 'bad negro bootlegging murdered' that was brought to justice and shot many times on sight after he 'murdered a deputy.' Great story with heavy racist content.
