Sextant Only THIS IS THE FAVORITE FOR BUDGET CUSTOMERS It took us longer to get these made than we thought but while they last it is nice to have them to offer now. We offer these with boxes some times and this order is sextant only. We list both, Physical size 5 in, and sextant size ( from pivot of arm ) 4 in. Many sellers sell a sextant by physical size only ( Very Important ). If both sizes are not listed, watch out. Working in the title means this sextant can be calibrated and used. Please compare feedback when deciding on a purchase. This item is a NEW Handmade Reproduction brass intricate nautical sextant . This is one of the favorites. Very Seldom do you see a 4 in sextant with fine adjusters on both mirrors and have 3 filters on the index filters. With some patience and fine adjustments you will be very happy with this one. Over the years I have had some very nice emails about this one. This is for the person wanting a sextant that is small, sturdy, easy viewing, adjustable mirrors, sturdy mounted telescope. The sextant itself is quite detailed, Slow Motion adjustment with 5 glass ( not plastic, very important, all of ours are glass ) filter lenses , and large swing arm, reflective mirrors, longer adjustable telescope than most 4 inch sextants. The " ROSS LONDON� " is engraved on the swing arm and is a trade mark of ours. The index arm features a magnifying lens and a highly accurate slow motion adjuster. The slow motion intricate device allows you to advance the swing arm by a fine adjustments or loosen the screw and use fast motion. The full 120 degree arc is inset with white metal to contrast with the brass, and features individual degree demarcations. Imagine sailing ship captains in the early 1900s using an instrument like this. This heavy brass sextant also features a solid construction and weighs only 1lb. Crafted in the style of a century ago, this sextant has a nicely polished and finished wood handle, as well as brass stand legs for upright easy display. All in all, would make a great gift for the sextant enthusiast and novice alike. Certainly a fine item for the sextant, brass, nautical, surveying, engineering instrument, militaria, or other collection - shines on display. This detailed item measures approximately 5 x 5 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches . SEXT5072 READ BEFORE YOU BUY A SEXTANT: The word Working in the title means the sextant can have final adjustments, calibration, and be used, but keep in mind these are handmade reproductions of antiques, not modern machine made precise instruments. If you want perfection spend the big bucks and get what you want, as these are for the average user wanting the looks of years gone by, brass instead of plastic, and are willing to spend the little extra time to set calibration so they can actually use it. Every user has different abilities, some can not change a part on their boat, and most likely should not buy a sextant, while others bought a used boat and rebuilt it, they will have patience to set the sextant calibration better than when the antique it is copied from was new, most likely.. All a sextant does is measure an angle from far of places, what you do with the reading, and how accurate you make the reading is up to the user. Be careful buying reproduction sextants as most can not be calibrated without changing parts, or remounting parts.
