Franklin Delano Roosevelt autograph 1945 Presidential Cruise. USS Quincy (CA-71) Odyssey, Japan Surrenders, Operation Overlord OK....this is the third time I have tried to sell this package but ebay has twice closed my auction and suspended me until I proved (twice!) that I do in fact legitimately own and possess this item! I know....0-feedback....but I just sold 24 items and about half of those are already shipped so Don't Panic! You'll have time to retract your bid during the week this item is listed if you have any question about the legality or legitimate ownership of this item. If they don't suspend me again for no reason/ It's a bit of a challenge to me now. I have retained all their contradictory emails and I'm interested to see if they suspend me again! T are really two distinct items included in this auction: First, t is the Autographed Certificate commemorating the Presidential Atlantic Crossings on board the U.S.S Quincy / During the period from January 23rd 1945 to February 27th 1945. " I, Frankin D. Roosevelt President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy cruised in the USS quincy to and from the Crimean Conference" From what I have determined from 'experts' in this field, it is possible that the autograph was in fact 'autopenned' but the ink does appear to bleed through a little to the back of the page, and is a different color from the rest of the text, indicating that it is not simply a photocopy. I understand that these certificates were only handed out by FDR to the crew members who were onboard at the same time as the President of the United States. I do not know of any other similar items. Second, t is the book, 'ODYSSEY USS QUINCY" printed by the Department of the Navy. This item covers the Keel laying at Bethlehem Steel Co, Quincy, Mass through her Shakedown Cruise Boston to Trinidad, Feb2-March13 1944 Following this is a lengthy text covering her time at sea through Operation Overlord (Normandie June 6, Cherbourg June 25, Southern France Aug 15 and Toulon-Marseilles); the Presidential Cruise; Suez; the Pacific War; Japan's Surrender; Demilitarisation of Izu Shoto; Ominato; the visit by Winston Churchill and a host of other invaluable details and information. Hundreds of photographs of various Departments and Divisions, 112+ pages in total. Both the book and the Certificate are in excellent condition with virtually no wear. Also included is the original mailing envelope for the book - the Certificate was handed out in person by FDR on the Cruise - but t is substantial acid-failure of the brown paper from which the envelope is made. Original postage for the book was 7cents!! Return address is 'U.S.S.Quincy (CA-71), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Washington.' I have this book and Certificate with me in the UK, w I am in process of re-patriating to be with the love of my life. Consequently, shipping costs will be determined based on the UK Postal Service Rates. You could have had US rates, last month, if ebay hadn't suspended this account for no reason. (Twice!) Please bear in mind!!! ebay's listing form does not permit me to give you the actual location of this item and is why! - ENGLAND doesn't use Zip Codes, they use POST CODES but ebay's form requires a Zip Code.
