This auction is for a rare and hard-to-find Fenton 5" cranberry opalescent hobnail vase. The feature which classifies this piece as rare is the crimping on the top edge, which Fenton referred to as "pie crimping". The majority of Fenton vases were ruffled. In my first photo, it is the vase on the far left. This pretty piece measures approximately 5" high, and is pre-logo [not marked] as it was made much prior to the time frame when Fenton began marking glassware [1971]. There are no cracks, chips, damage, flea bites, or repairs; no damaged hobnails. The cranberry opalescence, which had gold dust added to the glass mixture to produce, is even and there is no water staining or fading. There is a small amount of camera glare in the photo! This piece can be seen in the Fenton Glass Compendium 1940-70 by author John Walk. All of the cranberry pie crimp pieces shown may be featured in seperate auctions.
