Fenton Mosaic Threaded Vase 1926 RARE!
Up for auction is a VERY RARE Fenton Art Glass Mosaic Threaded Vase made in 1926! These are so rare that they don't even have one of these in the museum at the Fenton Gift Shop in Williamstown, WV. The background on this Vase, as told to me by the Fenton employees who run the museum, is that back in 1926 they had American glass blowers that, were born and learned their trade in Belgium. They did amazing things with glass. This piece as well as other mosaic threaded pieces of this era were made by them. The problem was that they were very expensive. They cost around $50.00 back then to buy. So many of them didn't make it our of the store, or survived many homes for the last 80 years. After about a year or so of making these, the Belgium glass blowers left and Fentons never heard from them again. The piece itself is just amazingly beautiful! It has a mosaic of reds, yellows, orange, and browns swirled around a black vase with a carnival glaze. Added to this is the threading, which is very difficult and not seen anymore in glass. It is 11 inches Tall and about 3 inched in diameter. You may notice in the picture that t is a line on the bottom of this piece, the Fenton museum employee told me that it isn't a crack, because a crack would have broke the piece over time. Instead I was told it happened while it was being finished by the glass blower. What happens is that the glass is blown and when the blower is done they attach another blow rod to the bottom with hot glass on the end to be able to unattached the original blowing rod. But they have to take that rod off as well in order to do that they pore cool water over the hot glass attached to the bottom and break off the rod. After doing this t is a bit of jagged glass on the bottom. To get rid of this they use a grinding stone with water to grind the jagged glass off, this is why t is a little indention on these vases. During this they may have not used enough water and created this line through a small section of the bottom, but it was common to sell pieces like this at Fentons. No chips, repairs , or other deformities on the item. I also had them appraise this piece while I was t and it is valued around $3,000. I set the reserve at $1,000. I think that is a fair price for the collectors who want a great deal. I also took pictures in the museum of this vase in a book called Fenton Art Glass, The First Twenty-Five Years 1907 - 1932 . I found it on page 80 in the top right hand corner, that is the vase I am selling . The item number is 3008-11" tall vase. The last vase I saw on eBay that was like this went for around $2,000. I also took pictures of this vase beside the picture in the book as well as a picture of the Fenton Art Glass Museum's Mosaic collection from the 1920's. I will be shipping this item by USPS Priority mail. Shipping cost will be $35.00. This included insurance( about $25) actual shipping($8), and materials to ensure safe delivery($2). Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have, I happen to have the resources of the Fenton gift shop at my disposal. Thanks a lot for looking and good luck bidding!
