Fiji to Hawaii SUVA Sugar Plantations 1920 WAR TAX Description : Uncommon multiplefranking of the domestic halfpenny war tax overprint, sent as part of aGeorge V franking to the Experimental Station of the Hawaii SugarProducers' Association in Honolulu, HI, US. Dated August 11, 1920, andthis cover is of some historical importance as the sender, who usedGrand Pacific Hotel stationery (imprint on backflap), signed his nameon the back of the envelope--C.E. Pemberton. Dr. Pemberton was anentomologist who went to Fiji in 1920 to obtain a quantity of "theegg-feeding mirid bug Tytthus mundulus (Bredd.)...for control of thesugar cane leafhopper Perkinsiella saccharicida". A nice autographedcover (I can scan the back if desired), from a prominent scientist thatcould be written up for a topical exhibit on the history of sugar.
