Hello, During the next few weeks we are honored to be listing the period antiques from the " Charwyn Farm ", the former residence of Mr. C. H. Mathews, Jr., Hollow Road, South East of Conestoga Road, Charlestown Township, Chester Co. Pennsylvania, for his daughter. All antiques listed have come from that residence, t is a drawing of it in 1933, and an estate appraisal by Freeman & Co. in 1935, that will not be included. T will be sterling, historical items, engravings, furnishings, jewelry, porcelain, books and important Philadelphia journals from 1766 - 1781, and accessories. Most originate from Pennsylvania, and are 18th c., so look often as things come up, t is wonderful documentation , Thanks, and Good Luck, John & Christin. Very romantic history on this stone. In 1960, our client was given this ring in engagement at Niagra Falls. Her husband took his grandmother's diamond and had it reset in this four prong basket platinum setting. He hid it in the upper pocket of his Macintosh when they went for a ride in the mists of Niagra Falls and presented it to her in the mist. She screamed so loudly when she got the ring that many people thought she had fallen into the water and her husband spent the better part of the tour assuring everyone she was fine and trying to calm her reaction. They were married for 45 wonderful years. Our client says t was never a bad day with her husband, not once. The appraisal was done by James & Sons, LTD., a local jeweller. You may access their website to verify their credentials. They have described the ring as "Ladies engagement ring. This ring is platinum containing one large round diamond in the center and baguettes on the band. The center stone is a cushion cut round diamond that weighs 2.6cttw. This cushion cut diamond is SI1 in clarity and I in color. The baguettes on the band weigh .15cttw." This appraisal was done 10-01-2004 for $15,000.00. We have another friend who specializes in diamonds and also believes that this stone is a European cushion cut with flat culet that may have been cut pre 1900, approximately. Pure stunning glamour and elegance you won't see on anyone else and the happiness and love it saw make it even better!
