Fine Antique Brass and Cast Iron Compound Microscope This basic, mid-grade 'scope most likely dates circa 1900, its base being cast iron rather than brass. It has no markings other than individually hand-stamped assembly numbers on its major parts, but its metric screws all but guarantee Continental origin (the consigner favors France, the auxiliary magnifier, per his research, being most often seen on 'scopes from that country). Neither eyepiece nor objective lens, both replaceable, are marked as to power. The magnifier and the dual-mirror condenser swivel universally, and the latter is aided by a rotating, four-aperture disk affixed to the underside of the specimen stage. Last but not least, the working half of the microscope can be rotated vertically; one only need improvise a spanner for the round locking screws located just below the stage. The overall condition of the 'scope is fine to very fine. A few spots of paint are missing from the top of the base's rear foot but are hardly noticeable against the patina of the iron. Protected and normally unhandled areas of the brass remains lacquered and bright; the rest have aged to a smooth dullness. The internal lenses are just dusty. All steel parts are rust-free.
