This FINE netsuke depicts a figure of a man, kneeling under the burden of a large container on his back - RARE, 3 sets of string holes to enable tying the netsuke in different balance as needed. SUPERB, INTRICATE detail with wonderful facial expression. It is artist SIGNED on the back with Japanese characters inside a cartouch. The style and age wear suggest it was carved around 1850 from a single piece of elephant ivory tusk. Condition is very good with no losses - DEEP age patina. It measures 1 5/8" x 1 3/8" x 1".
