A good firmer chisel from James Howarth - a first-class maker, making tools in Victorian Sheffield from 1863. Clean and sharp and ready to go. A chip out of the top of the handle, and a small crack, visible in the photograph, don't affect the use. .......................................................................... In 1863, James Howarth and Sons was set up in Eyre Street, Sheffield, and enjoyed an excellent reputation for its steel quality. Using the very best materials and employing the most skilled labour, James Howarth and Sons produced goods of the very highest standard and had a reputation for excellence in the most distant markets. Upon the death of James Howarth, the firm was managed by his four sons James, Samuel, Edwin and John Howarth.
