carving reads: From Jacksonville, Fla Fire Souvnir 1700 Houses Burned Up On 3 Day of May 1901. Extensively relief carved with a vine of blooming flowers and birds feeding nestlings, likely symbolizing rebirth; 34" long. This fire, contained in an eight hour period, was one of the worst disasters in Florida history, equal in scale and destruction to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.Condition: Missing ferrule.
