Offered is this lovely Flow Blue china square plate or platter, featuring the portrait of an elegant woman in a large picture hat. The wide-brimmed hat is decorated with dark ostrich plumes or feathers, a popular millinery fashion in the Victorian era. The lady wears it at a rakish angle, in the style of Britain’s Kate Middleton, who is restoring interest in lady’s hats. The hat frames long platinum blonde curls. The plate measures 9.75 inches square (25 cm). It is made of heavy gauge porcelain. The piece is unmarked except for the numbers 68 (or 89) in gold on the bottom. The scalloped cobalt blue rim of the plate is decorated with an overlay of gold filigree designs. Two white ribbons are embossed into the design on the sides of the platter. They too are accented with gold. The cameo portrait is outlined with a think gold band, and framed with a gold filigree cartouche. This platter is in very good condition for its years. No chips or cracks. Gold trim shows noticeable wear, particularly on the design that frames the portrait and around the outside rim. Insurance included in shipping costs. Questions welcomed.
