This is one of the strangest Sphalerite's I have ever seen! This is a very fine example of Sterling Hill Mine Sphalerite with incredibly bright Hydrozincite, coating the Sphalerite veins themselves, especially on the display face! ~~~~~HUGE at over 8'' long and 12 pounds~~~~ You can see the Sphalerite veins with the Hydrozincite covering them, and the Calcite bordering them. The Calcite is very strange in that it is all secondary in nature and is very bright with a good phosphorescent flash as well. There are also nice pink highlights throughout with another color secondary Calcite that is also intermingled with some of the Sphalerite veins too! Believe it or not, the second and third pictures are just the back of the same face shown in the first pictures. Thay look like they are under a totally different wavelength, even a different specimen too! The fourth and fifth pic are again under SW as well. The next four pics are under MW and show the Sphalerite veins in pink and blue with Hydrozincite as well. The last two pics are under LW and the veins jump right back out again!!! The veins traverse the entire specimen and in daylight it is a very dark and altered looking piece, including the Sphalerite veining itself-- Just a real oddball!This piece is about 12 pounds or a little more, it maxes out my postal scale at 11 pounds!!!
