Fornasetti loved trompe both l'oeil affects and the simple pleasures of daily life. Many of his best illustrations/designs combine these two themes. Coins, pipes, utensils and stamps are just a few of the items he depicted-both the examples of his age and historical ones. This tankard is decorated with other tankards/beer steins, from an array of eras and nations. Caviar20 has been specializing in vintage Fornasetti ceramics for several years and this is the first time we have ever encountered this form. (Espresso cups seem to be one of the only other drinking vessels that Fornasetti created - and they are quite rare themselves!) This is a lovely example from Fornasetti's body of work; whimsical, masculine and rich with historical references. A great piece that can either be fully functional or perfectly decorative. Or a great addition to your own Fornasetti collection Additional images available on request. Questions about this piece?
