Fort Pillow Massacre Negroes 1864 Confederate Newspaper (Note: additional images are located below the description) Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, April 18, 1864 * Battle of Fort Pillow - Negroes massacre * Rare Confederate title from the rebel capital * Abraham Lincoln document A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy with a wealth of war-related news, from the Confederate perspective. The front page has war-related reports with heads & subheads: "The War News" "The Valley of Virginia--An Affair With The Enemy" "The Confederate States Prison Post" "Departure of Prisoners for City Point" "The Prisoners of War..." "The Louisiana Zouave Battalion..." and a bit more (see for portions). Perhaps the best & most historic report is on page 2, an early announcement of the victory at Fort Pillow with: "Splendid Victory--Capture of Fort Pillow--The Whole Garrison Annihilated--Complete Success" with the text including: "Forrest attacked this place...The garrison consisted of 200 white and 400 negro troops. the fort refusing to surrender was carried by storm...The fort ran with blood. Many jumped into the river & were drowned or shot in the water..." (see). Other back page reports including "From Norther Virginia" which noes that: "Deserters who have entered out lines...report that the enemy will begin their advance tomorrow..." . Also: "Additional From the North" "Plans of the Campaign Against Richmond" "From the West" "From the Southwest". Plus there is the always interesting editorial which takes nearly two columns & begins: "Three years now revolved since the state of Virginia broke the bonds which connected it with the Northern States of the late Union...We have lived a century since the secession of Virginia..." with much more interesting reading (see for portions). Also on the back page is a document signed in type by the President: A. Lincoln , concerning the state of Florida (see).
