WOLF & DESSAUER 50TH ANNIVERSARY Many of those who grew up in Fort Wayne, shopped in Fort Wayne, or even visited in Fort Wayne will probably recall the most wonderful store of all - Wolf & Dessauer! (Sorry Macy's...) Christmas meant visiting Santa Claus t and possibly being on TV since it was televised. It also meant the animated window displays and fabulous lights displays. It was truly a wonderland! It is gone now and only the light displays remain . They are put up each year in another location and remind us of a simpler time.... You can own a bit of that history with this unusual treasure that commemorates W & D's 50 years in 1946. T is a huge page in this oversized book dedicated to each decade starting with 1896-1906. As an example, the 1926-1936 page includes information about the times- Gertrude Ederle swam the English Channel...Fort Wayne discovered saxophones and Rudy Vallee... Lindbergh flew from New York to Paris... Fort Wayne saw its first talking pictures... Wolf & Dessauer showed shortest skirts in captivity, inspired by John Held Jr. "flappers"...and more on each page. World history, local history and W & D history! 24 pages in all.
