To which are added, Letters of Prince Charles Stuart from the Stuart Papers, copied by Lord Mahon from the Original Mss. at Windsor. A New Edition. London: John Murray, 1852. 12mo, contemporary ¾ calf over marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt tooling and title blocked on black leather; viii, 160pp. An account of the second Jacobite uprising of 1745 in Scotland against the Crown of England (and an early chapter in the long history of fiercely independent Scots challenging the authority of British rule). Front hinge started and t (just about fifty percent split), but holding fast; otherwise and in every respect a VG+ copy with moderate rubbing to the marbled boards and edge-wear commensurate with more than 150 years of gentle use; t are no notes, bookplates or marks in the text of any kind. Loosely fitted with a previous collector’s protective mylar jacket (not affixed to the book in any way and easily removed like any DJ). A lovely copy of a scarce title.
