Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE-NY," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a large stump flanked by shrubs. Some fry to cobalt. Chips and wear to rim. A few small surface flakes to exterior. Glaze flakes to interior. Exfoliation to underside. Minor base wear. Some minor staining. H 11 5/8".
