Years later, he shot former Vice President Aaron Burr in a duel. Burr died later from his wounds. For anyone around downtown NYC you can walk past Trinity Church and see his grave site.This 1862 legal tender note was among this country's first attempts to print money. The Act of July 11, 1862 signed after the start of the Civil War gave the U.S. Treasury the power to print money. The term Legal Tender means debtors are obligated to accept these notes for any private or public debts.
