Owlet - François PomponReproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Dijon.Pompon stylizes the animal by smoothing his body to the outline and emphasizing the fixity of his attitude. In reaction to Rodin's expressionism, François Pompon turned to the animal theme, drawing inspiration from the animals he observed at the Jardin des Plantes. The owl is represented in a static position. The purging of the line and the polishing of the work highlight the eyes and contribute to give this impression of attentive fixity that characterizes this bird. Pompon worked on the theme of owls between 1918 and 1923. There are two versions, either with projecting eyes, or with hollow eyes like here.Original work by Pompon was in Bronze, this reproduction is an exact replica and is made of heavy resin. This reproduction has the weight, feel and finish very similar to bronze. These reproductions are still available at the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Dijon for 139 euros ($164 US)
