This is a dessert plate from the Imperial Hotel in Japan. This hotel (and its furniture and china) was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It burned down in 1966. The plate is 7 1/2 inches across. It is pure white trimmed in gold. On the back it says Noritake Nippon Toki Kaisha 1937. It is in excellent condition with no signs of use or wear. Plates of this pattern are very rare because they were never sold. They were either presented as gifts by the hotel management, or stolen. This one was presented to my uncle. Lambert was on the Missouri when the treaty with Japan was signed and was the first priest on Japan after WWII. For the first few months he ministered to over 5000 soldiers. I have several photos from this era, including a newspaper clipping of a photo of him taken at the Imperial Hotel. I will email these photos if you would like to see them.
