GI-94 pint Franklin - Dyott aqua flask. 1820's. A little under 7" in height. Three quarter profiles of head and chest of Franklin and Dr. Dyott on opposite sides. These early Kensington Glass Works molds are exquisite in their high relief and detail. Excellent portrayal of each man's face and clothing. Open Pontil, plain lip (sheared and polished). McKearin "relatively scarce" This is an important piece of American history and is museum worthy. Embossing: Portrait of Franklin and arched over his head "BENJAMIN FRANKLIN" The side embossing reads "WHERE LIBERTY DWELLS, HERE IS MY COUNTRY: (reverse) Portrait of Thomas Dyott and arched over his head "T.W. DYOTT, M.D." The side embossing reads "KENSINGTON GLASS WORKS PHILADELPHIA" Condition: Hard to believe, but this flask was dug; not by me but by some other very lucky digger. These flasks were almost always collected from the start, and this one was kept on a shelf for a period of time based on base wear, but was then thrown out - maybe after Dyott's fall from grace. This flask has been carefully restored through pro-cleaning and the results are outstanding. The neck is a little foggy as pictured, but the rest of the bottle has perfect clarity with no stain. Remarkably, even when tossed in to a dump or privy, it has no damage of any form, and very little high point wear. All of the read more
