Collectible pair of bookends from the Frankoma Pottery Company of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. They can be used as vases as well and feature a well-worn boot with a horseshoe on the bottom of the heel and another leaning on the boot, forming the base. The rutile glaze technique is used, adding titantium dioxide in the firing process, yielding a two-tone effect, in this case green and tan. The condition is excellent, no chips or flakes. They measure 7” at the highest point, with a length of approximately 7 ½”. The clay is the red Sapulpa clay and they are marked with the in-mold marking “Frankoma”, mold #433, indicating a production period of after 1954. This particular piece was first introduced in 1951. These work beautifully with the “Wagon Wheel” pattern and as a stand-alone Frankoma collectible, as the factory was closed some years ago.
