This very nice French High Ranking Officer's Epeé is a Model 1837. It wears a beautiful guard that is wonderfully detailed, which includes a French Rooster inside a laurel wreath flanked by 6 flags and 2 stars upon the face. The guard is also accentuated with a lovely floral motif along the knuckle guard as well as enhanced with the face of a lion on the quillion face. The guard has a stress crack to the quillion, nevertheless it does remain sturdy in place and overall the guard continues to wear 98% of the bright gold wash. The ball bearing on the back folding guard has also most likely been intentionally removed as often found due to offering more efficiency when it was in use. This lovely Epeé is mounted with a plain blade that measures 33 inches in length. The blade although shows to have received cleanings throughout the years, does remain nice with only minor stains and traces of the maker's marking "Coulaux Freres Klingenthal" can still be made out on both sides. The leather scabbard has also survived in very healthy condition with all the stitching tightly intact and wears equally beautiful gold washed fittings. Overall measuring 40 inches in length.
