French vintage packaging dress shirt Au Bon Marche art nouveau box c1880s advert Truly stunning and rare mens dress shirt in a vintage c1880s shirt box from the French Parisian Store Au Bon Marche (credited with being the worlds first department store). The box is lidded card with wooden frame, and is covered in a beautiful early art nouveau style pattern in pale green onto cream. There is a magnificent Au Bon Marche label in the centre of the lid.Inside the folded shirt has a very starched pin tucked bib and cuffs, there is no collar as this would have been kept in a collar box and changed more frequently. There is a size 41 and an embroidered makers name Belle Jardinaire Paris in back of neck in red.The shirt has a closed lower front below the bib and lots of small gathering at back of neck and sleeves, so a lovely roomy shirt. There are double button holes for shirt studs as due to the heavy starched front buttons could not be used. The box measures 234 x 10 x 2 3/4 inches in size. I've not launderd this shirt as it is in its original laundered condition, but due to storage for many years (it dates to around the 1880's) it is in good clean condition. However I also had an unboxed shirt from the same source which was very badly age stained, so I washed it and soaked in boiling water and it has come up really white and soft, all the read more
