Full page albumen of Major Peter S MIchie as Professor of Engineering at West Point in 1871. Graduated West Point in the Class of 1859 (2nd), 1st Lt Engineers 1863, Lt Colonel AIG 1865, Capt Engineers 1865, Bvt Captain and Major during the Civil War for Gallant and Meritorious Service in the 1864 campaign against Richmond and Lt Colonel for the Appomatox Campaign. Brevet Brigadier General in 1865. Served as Engineer in the battles against Charleston SC and NC, later moved to the Army of the James where he was the head of Engineering and eventually Inspector General. After teaching at West Point he became a noted scientist publishing numerous publications on Physics and Mechanics. He also wrote the life history of famed Union General EMory Upton. Scarce.
