FULPER POTTERY HANDLED CANDLE SCONCE Fulper produced art pottery from around 1900 to 1935. The mark on this vase is is the large rectangular vertical black inkstamp mark (and block letters) used from 1909-1916. The style is typical arts and crafts movement with a speckled matte brown glaze. T is some wax residue in the candle hole and some scorch marks on the hooded back wall. This piece has character and likes the mantle of a natural rock fireplace. The company that became Fulper Pottery was begun in 1814 in Flemington, New Jersey by a young Samuel Hill, a potter originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Hill was a utilitarian potter and Hill Pottery produced drain pipes and storage crocks and jars from Flemington's red earthenware clay. Abraham Fulper began buying the company and owned it fully by 1899. Dimensions: 7" high x 5" diameter across the bottom
