The series lasted 2 seasons, each lasting 13 episodes, and ran on CBS from September 21, 1991 to 1992. The show focused on Marty McFly and Doc Brown, together with Doc's wife Clara, their sons Jules and Verne and dog Einstein, and Marty's girlfriend Jennifer Parker as they travelled through time using the De Lorean and steam train time machines. The themesong was a shortened version of Huey Lewis and the News' Back in Time. Animation is the illusion of movement. It is like magic. Nothing is real, nothing exists, yet after watching an episode of an animated series, we are able to relate to the characters as if they were alive and we can believe in the world where these characters live. All films including live action films are created by joining together a sequence of still photographs with very small changes in-between. These photograph sequences appear to move and to be alive when they are run through a film projector or video recorder. This happens because our eyes cannot keep up with the speed of change between each photograph. This is called persistence of vision. Persistence of vision refers to the length of time the retina (the screen at the back of the eye) retains an image. Animated films are created by filming drawings instead of photographs. Each single drawing is called a frame. When twenty four frames per second - each one slightly different - move in front of our eyes, we 'see' the picture moving. This movement brings the drawings to life giving us the characters and the stories of the cartoon or animated series. All cels are original hand-painted animation cels used in the actual production of the cartoons.Cels (short for "celluloids") are the fundamental building blocks behind all animated film entertainment. The fluid motion portrayed in a cartoon is the result of thousands of indivdual paintings. Several hundred cels are requires for a single minute of animated film. Every hand-painted cel is a complete original, created by a single animation artist. It is an original production cel used in the actual cartoon itself. The Hand drawn pencil drawings are not fake or re-productions. Some are many years old and are just waiting to be mounted and displayed. You will see areas of wear on the original pencil drawings which is even evidence of it being the original. The pencil animation cels travel from the artist to the finished product (the painted cel) so they are the most worn and the most difficult to find since most of them are destroyed after the painted cel is completed!
