GAGATE (JET, BLACK AMBER) SIBERIAN STONE COLUMN Gagate, popularly known as Jet, also known as Black Amber, although it isn't actually an Amber, rather fossilized coal, compact, light and hard, lustrous black stone that was used as medical stone for migraines, toothache, stomach pains during the Victorian era. Gagate is frequently cabochon cut. Gagate has been mined near Whitby (on the Yorkshire coast of England ) since prehistoric times. It is also found in Russia , Spain , France , Germany , this piece came from Irkutsk , Western Siberian Region, Russia . Stone massage therapy is a healing practice used in ancient cultures.
